There’s magic in the air! Learn how to make paper by hand in beautiful Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico this summer!

Join me for a fun 3-day hands-on immersive workshop under the studio canopy with birds and cottonwood trees. We will focus on traditional papermaking with abaca and plant fibers for sculptural applications. Learn how to build armatures with natural materials, explore inclusions for added texture and color, mark-making with plant based ink and stains and surface embellishment.

Details:
10am - 4pm daily
The comprehensive 3-day workshop includes art supplies, step-by-step demonstrations, expert instruction, and thoughtfully curated supportive materials such as papermaking journals, extensive resource lists, and a selection of inspirational books and magazines.

Day 1: Build armatures with foraged and studio materials (willow, cottonwood, rattan)
Day 2: Hand papermaking with abaca fiber and inclusions (chamisa, black walnut)
Day 3: Mark-making with indigo, sumi ink and/or plant based stains

What’s Included:
All materials and supplies, instruction and demonstrations.
Coffee/tea and snacks

What to bring:
Bag lunch
Sturdy shoes and layers clothing for changing weather conditions.
Sunscreen/hat
Drinking water

Location:
Arroyo Hondo is just a short distance from Taos, a charming town known for its exceptional dining options and contemporary art galleries that beautifully showcase the rich culture and artistic heritage of northern New Mexico.

Lodging:
The Taos area offers a variety of lodging options from Airbnb homes to Hotels and Campgrounds.

Note:

  • Be prepared to manage stairs.

  • At the end of the workshop you will have a collection of small works to take home. Please make arrangements for transporting your artwork.

  • Paper Rain Studio is scent free home/studio with a dog and cat onsite.
