Paper & Constructions Workshop / IN-STUDIO

Explore the magic of transforming flax fiber into textured paper that will be applied over, in and through your constructions adding dimensionality to the form. Use surface embellishment techniques such as mark-making and stitching to build up layers adding color and texture to your fiber sculptures.

In this process oriented 2-day workshop participants will learn methods for constructing armatures with rigid and flexible materials like rattan, wire and danish cord for handmade paper applications.  Techniques include lashing with waxed linen thread and weaving flexible fiber.

All levels welcome.

Workshop Details:

  • All materials are included in the workshop fee

  • Coffee/tea/snacks are offered during breaks

What to bring:

  • Bag lunch

  • Sturdy shoes and layered clothing for high desert temperature changes

  • Water bottle (it’s important to stay hydrated in the arid climate)

The Studio:

  • Located in Arroyo Hondo, just minutes north of Taos between majestic mountains and the Rio Grande, Paper Rain Studio is a natural light filled creative space, smoke/scent free and pet-friendly.
